THE OPPORTUNITY
Ocean Conservancy seeks an experienced and innovative Senior Digital Marketing Manager to drive online revenue growth and supporter engagement as a key member of the digital marketing team. Reporting to the Director of Digital Marketing & Platforms, this role is critical to achieving Ocean Conservancy’s $5MM digital fundraising goal and supporting its broader $50MM+ annual revenue target by developing transformative digital experiences that drive donor conversion and engagement.

In this role, the Senior Digital Marketing Manager will leverage strategic campaign development, data-driven optimization, and hands-on execution to build sustainable digital revenue streams. The Senior Digital Marketing Manager will lead day-to-day digital fundraising operations—including integrated marketing campaign development, donation page optimization, donor segmentation, and performance analytics—while collaborating closely with the Director of Digital Marketing & Platforms to implement breakthrough multichannel strategies.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Digital Fundraising Strategy & Campaign Execution

  • Partner with the Director of Digital Marketing & Platforms to develop and implement integrated digital fundraising strategies that increase online revenue, donor retention, and lifetime value

  • Execute multichannel donor acquisition, cultivation, and retention campaigns across email, SMS, social media, and web in coordination with paid media initiatives

  • Lead end-to-end fundraising campaign management including creative development, timelines, production, testing, performance analysis, and coordination across internal teams and external vendors

  • Collaborate across advocacy, communications, and development teams to ensure cohesive messaging and brand voice, guaranteeing coordinated messages and call to actions on all digital channels

  • Identify and implement emerging digital fundraising trends, technologies, and best practices

  • Track campaign performance against revenue goals and reforecast as needed based on results

Email Marketing & Donor Engagement

  • Develop and execute sophisticated email marketing strategies such as campaign calendars, content development, and audience targeting to engage and convert supporters to donors

  • Manage and execute email production workflows, including copywriting, HTML development, creative, quality assurance, and deployment

  • Optimize email deliverability, segmentation strategies, and list growth initiatives to ensure healthy list performance

  • Implement personalized donor journeys based on behavior, giving history, and engagement patterns

  • Analyze email performance metrics and implement optimization strategies to improve open rates, click-through rates, and conversion

Donation Experience Optimization

  • Oversee optimization of donation pages, forms, and user experiences to maximize conversion rates and average gift size

  • Implement A/B testing frameworks for donation experiences, email campaigns, and digital touchpoints

  • Work with the Director of Digital Marketing & Platforms to launch and enhance digital platforms that improve donor experience and increase revenue

  • Provide technical support for digital fundraising systems and troubleshoot issues with vendor partners

  • Support merchandise integration and e-commerce initiatives

Data, Analytics, and Platform Management

  • Establish and maintain source-based tracking for all digital fundraising campaigns and communications

  • Create and maintain KPI dashboards, benchmarks, and testing frameworks to measure campaign effectiveness and produce reports highlighting trends, insights, and recommendations

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to leverage data insights for audience segmentation and personalized donor strategies to inform strategic decision-making

  • Serve as primary administrator for digital fundraising platforms (e.g., Engaging Networks), ensuring optimal configuration, data integrity, and the adoption of new tools and process by staff through training

  • Work with development staff to maintain and update the supporter database, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to best practices

  • Coordinate with IT and operations teams on platform integrations and technical enhancements

Team Leadership & Vendor Management

  • Supervise and mentor digital fundraising staff, fostering professional development growth and high performance

  • Manage relationships with vendors, agencies, and consultants supporting digital fundraising, including troubleshooting, feature requests, contract negotiations, budgets, and assist in managing creative and technical agency partnerships

  • Contribute to team culture, brainstorms, and innovation initiatives across the digital marketing team

DESIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will have many of the experiences and qualifications described below but need not possess them all for consideration:

  • 5+ years of experience in digital fundraising, marketing, or online engagement within a nonprofit or cause-driven organization

  • Demonstrates a proven track record managing digital fundraising campaigns and consistently meeting or exceeding revenue goals

  • Hands-on experience developing and executing email marketing campaigns including strategy, copywriting, production, deployment, and performance analysis

  • Strong knowledge of email deliverability best practices, segmentation strategies, and A/B testing methodologies

  • Expertise in digital analytics, campaign optimization, and performance reporting

  • Exhibits excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously and meet deadlines

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail

  • Data-driven mindset with ability to analyze performance metrics and translate insights into strategy

  • Collaborative and proactive work style with ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote team environment

  • Experience with fundraising CRMs and SaaS platforms (e.g., Engaging Networks, Salesforce, EveryAction, Raiser's Edge), plus proficiency in HTML, Canva or Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and project management platforms (e.g. Asana)

TRAVEL
This position requires travel 1-2 times a year to attend team meetings and retreats.

LOCATION

Ocean Conservancy embraces a hybrid work structure requiring employees to reside in one of the following US states: AK, CA, DC, FL, MD, OR, VA, TX, WA, or WV. The structure allows staff the flexibility to work virtually and in person while building strong connections across the institution.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The expected minimum salary for this role is $100,000, with an anticipated starting salary dependent upon the hired candidate’s location, qualifications, background, and experience. In addition, Ocean Conservancy offers a comprehensive benefits package to include:

  • 15 paid vacation days, 11 holidays, 12 sick days, and two personal days
