THE OPPORTUNITY
Ocean Conservancy seeks an experienced Digital Content Manager to drive the future of ocean conservation through powerful digital storytelling and strategic content development. The Digital Content Manager will play a key role in amplifying Ocean Conservancy's digital presence by crafting compelling narratives that inspire action and advance its mission. In this pivotal role, the Digital Content Manager will lead programmatic content strategy across all digital platforms, transforming complex conservation issues into engaging stories that resonate with diverse audiences, mobilize supporters, and expand Ocean Conservancy’s digital reach. This role is ideal for a natural storyteller and strategic thinker who thrives in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment.
Reporting to the Director, Digital Advocacy & Engagement, the Digital Content Manager will have the following primary responsibilities:
Strategic Content Leadership
Architect and execute data-driven content strategies across all digital channels that align with the team, organizational goals, and programmatic priorities.
Collaborate with Conservation and Communications teams to translate scientific findings and complex policy initiatives into compelling narratives that drive engagement and action.
Identify emerging digital trends and opportunities to amplify Ocean Conservancy's message and increase audience growth.
Content Creation & Optimization
Craft powerful, SEO-optimized content that elevates Ocean Conservancy's voice while making complex conservation topics accessible and actionable.
Develop compelling storytelling across formats such as long-form articles, blog posts, advocacy alerts, emails, and website content that conveys urgency while inspiring hope.
Apply SEO techniques to maximize content discoverability and organic reach.
Transform conservation expertise into shareable digital assets that educate, inspire and mobilize audiences.
Production
Develop comprehensive creative briefs and provide expert feedback on vendor-produced content.
Maintain brand consistency while pushing creative boundaries to capture attention in crowded digital spaces.
Produce emails and blogs.
Ensure all content adheres to accessibility standards and Ocean Conservancy brand guidelines.
Digital Asset Collection
Organizes and maintains digital assets by applying consistent tagging and metadata strategies ensuring content is structured and easily accessible across Ocean Conservancy’s internal libraries and databases for organization-wide use.
Leverage Ocean Conservancy's extensive internal photo library to source impactful visuals that enhance storytelling, strengthen brand identity, and establish emotional connections across articles and content pieces.
Project Management & Analytics
Lead content projects from conception through execution using Asana and other project management tools.
Track and analyze content performance across platforms using Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console, Engaging Networks, and other analytics tools.
Translate performance data into actionable insights to continuously refine content strategy and maximize impact.
Maintain efficient workflows to ensure timely delivery of high-quality content under deadline pressure.
REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will have many of the experiences and qualifications described below but need not possess them all for consideration:
5+ years of experience in digital content strategy and management within the nonprofit sector, demonstrating progressive responsibility and impact
Proven track record of developing and managing multi-channel digital campaigns that drive measurable engagement
Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into compelling narratives
Working knowledge of SEO principles, Google Analytics 4, and Google Search Console
Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and digital engagement platforms (e.g., Engaging Networks)
Strong project management skills, with experience using project management software such as Asana to coordinate workflows and meet deadlines
Solid understanding of digital accessibility standards and best practices
Excellent attention to detail paired with a strong ability to maintain a strategic, big picture perspective
Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines

Ocean Conservancy embraces a hybrid work structure requiring employees to reside in one of the following US states: AK, CA, DC, FL, MD, OR, VA, TX, WA, and WV. The structure allows staff the flexibility to work virtually and in person while building strong connections across the institution.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Ocean Conservancy is committed to fair and equitable compensation as a foundation for fostering a diverse, inclusive, and thriving workplace where every employee feels valued and empowered. It has established pay structures informed by market data and ensures accountability through ongoing monitoring and reporting of its progress toward achieving more equitable pay practices.
The minimum starting salary for this position is $82,000 annually. Final compensation offers will be determined at the end of the recruitment process based on factors such as the candidate’s location, qualifications, background, experience, and internal pay equity considerations. To ensure alignment, candidates are encouraged to share their salary expectations early. This allows for meaningful discussions about compensation and helps ensure alignment and equity before a final offer.
