THE OPPORTUNITY

Ocean Conservancy seeks an experienced, hands-on PAC Business Partner to lead high-impact talent acquisition efforts and collaborate with other members of the People and Culture Team to provide general human resources (HR) support across the organization’s growing, multi-state workforce.

Reporting to the Chief of People and Culture, the PAC Business Partner role is central to building a people and culture infrastructure that is efficient, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals. This role is ideal for an HR professional who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys improving systems and processes, and values creating trusted internal partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities

The PAC Business Partner will have the following key responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition

  • Lead full-cycle talent acquisition, including sourcing, screening, evaluating, and preboarding new hires in collaboration with hiring managers.

  • Develop and implement standardized tools, templates, and trainings to ensure a consistent, efficient recruitment and hiring process across the organization.

  • Ensure job descriptions align with compensation frameworks and performance expectations.

  • Collaborate with the Communications Department to align job postings, recruitment materials, and employer branding with Ocean Conservancy’s mission and values.

  • Analyze recruitment data to inform decision-making, track progress, and continuously improve hiring outcomes.

  • Represent the organization at targeted career and professional events to strengthen Ocean Conservancy’s reputation as an employer of choice.

  • Manage relationships with external talent acquisition consultants and agencies to ensure alignment with organizational hiring needs and standards.

People and Culture Partnership & Services

  • Maintain accurate HR records and contribute to process improvements.

  • Provide extra HR support by assisting PAC team members with on policy guidance, employee relations, onboarding, training, and performance management activities, as needed.

  • Support benefits administration and assist with unemployment filings, compliance audits, and legal reviews as needed.

  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and cross-training to build team capacity and ensure business continuity.

  • Collaborate with the Project Integration Director to ensure internal communication flows across People and Culture, Finance, and other Departments as necessary to support informed decision-making.

  • Partner with the Chief of People and Culture in fostering a cohesive, values-aligned team environment.

  • Model and promote Ocean Conservancy’s organizational values in all aspects of the role.

REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will have many of the experiences and qualifications described below but need not possess them all for consideration:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in human resources, including full-cycle recruitment and HR operations within a multi-state organization.

  • Solid understanding of U.S. employment law, compliance requirements, and HR best practices across various states.

  • Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRIS platforms.

  • Exceptional communication, project management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Highly collaborative, adaptable, and solutions driven.

  • Ability to analyze HR data to inform and drive strategic initiatives.

  • Strong sense of accountability, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive information.


TRAVEL
 

Occasional travel required (1-2 times a year) for meetings and retreats.

LOCATION 

This is a hybrid or remote position based in Washington, D.C.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The minimum salary for this position is $100,000 annually, with an anticipated starting salary dependent upon the hired candidate’s location, qualifications, background, and experience. In addition, Ocean Conservancy offers a comprehensive benefits package to include:

  • Retirement Planning - 100% vested upon hire; can begin contributing at hire. After 1 year, Ocean Conservancy will open a 401(a) account for you and will contribute 6% of your monthly salary whether you participate in the 403(b) or not.   

  • 15 paid vacation days, 11 holidays, 12 sick days, and two personal days
